AC Problems We Diagnose and Repair
Our NATE-certified technicians provide a full range of fixes for central AC repairs, heat pumps, and ductless mini-splits throughout Cary. Whether it’s a simple issue like a dirty filter or more complex, we’ll find the root cause and fix it fast.
Here’s a look at some of the most common air conditioning repairs we handle for local homeowners.
AC is running but not cooling
If your AC runs all afternoon but the temperature never drops, there’s likely a refrigerant leak or a dirty outdoor coil. The Triangle’s yellow pine pollen can coat condenser fins every spring and summer, leaving buildup that keeps the unit from releasing heat. We clean the coil, check refrigerant pressure, and test the compressor to uncover why your AC isn’t cooling.
AC is blowing warm air
Feeling warm air coming from the vents is the last thing you need after a hot Saturday at Bond Park. When your AC starts blowing warm air, it’s usually a sign that a failed capacitor or tripped breaker has caused the outdoor unit to stop running. Our technicians diagnose and repair electrical components or the thermostat to get cool air blowing again.
AC keeps turning on and off
Notice your AC turning on for a few minutes, shutting off, and starting again? When your unit short-cycles, it’s often caused by a thermostat problem, a failing capacitor, an overheating compressor, or a system that’s the wrong size for your home.
We’ll test the thermostat, capacitor, and wiring to find the cause and make repairs that keep your system running steadily. If the size of your system is the problem, we can help you explore your replacement options and find a better fit for your home.
Water is leaking around the AC
Cary’s humid summer days mean your air conditioner pulls gallons of water out of the air throughout the season. If it backs up, the condensate line or drain pan where it collects can send water into your attic or ceiling. We clear the line to restore proper drainage and make sure water’s leaving your home the way it should.
Strange noises or odors
If your air conditioner is suddenly as loud as the cicadas in Cary’s summer trees, something’s not right. Grinding, squealing, buzzing, or burning smells often point to worn motor bearings or a part that has come loose. We find the source and repair it before it turns into a bigger breakdown.
When Should You Call for AC Repair?
Rooms that never reach the set temperature, energy bills that spike for no clear reason, a breaker that keeps tripping, and no airflow from the vents all signal your air conditioner needs attention. Before calling for professional air conditioning repair, there are a few things you can check to rule out simple fixes. Make sure the thermostat is set to cool, replace the filter if it’s dirty, and check whether the AC breaker has tripped. If your system still isn’t cooling, it’s time to call our team for same-day AC repairs.
What Happens During an AC Repair Appointment?
When you call Thermo Direct for AC repair, we’ll aim to get a technician to your door that same day. Once on site, your technician will use state-of-the-art diagnostic equipment to inspect your system and find the root cause of the problem.
We’ll explain what we found and give you transparent pricing for your repair options before any work begins. Our technicians arrive with the tools and replacement parts needed to finish most repairs on the first visit, so you get cooling back that same day.
Why Fixing AC Problems in Cary, NC Early Matters
Cary summers are long, hot, and humid, forcing your air conditioning to run from late spring into fall. Ignoring a small refrigerant leak or malfunctioning part that showed up at the beginning of the season can turn into a major failure by the time August arrives.
When your AC stops working properly, it stops pulling moisture out of the air and leaves your home feeling damp and musty. With the Triangle’s heavy summer humidity, that extra moisture can lead to mold growth and make your home feel warmer than the thermostat reads.
